Editor’s note: Long-time educator Mr. “Gene” Sexton passed away yesterday. Below is an Addison Times article from Dec. 1, 2020, after Mr. Sexton submitted in writing thoughts for my class at Shelbyville High School. Following is his obituary. Mr. Sexton isn’t done educating Shelbyville’s youth. Despite retiring in 1987 after 30 years as the Shelbyville Jr. High School principal, the SHS Hall of Fame member shared advice and memories with family members, who in turn submitted a written document last month for current high school students.
What a lovely and wonderful tribute to a great man of our community. I offer my sincerest condolences to his family during this sad and difficult time.
What a wonderful man and human being. My deepest condolences Toni on the loss of your dear father. Prayers for you and the family. Your classmate, Joan Hall...
I wish you girls & your families prayers over the loss of your Dad. I hope you are comforted by a lifetime of beautiful memories of this good man who touched so many lives in his 95 years! How sad, but how proud you must feel. Both your parents, their long marriage, the beautiful family they started, and their careers dedicated to helping others, is such an inspiration! I’m sure their will be much laughter through your tears as you reminisce & celebrate his life! ♥️ Linda Gaudin
