We're still The Addison Times. I know what you mean, though. :) I did make the call to allow banner recognition of major underwriters. The challenge with any news source in the post-print/advertising heyday is funding. I worked with board members to determine the best way to ensure we are stable. Most recently - as you know - I only took donations and either adjusted the budget accordingly and/or pitched in to cover shortfalls. (Thank you, by the way, for your support!) With the move to a non-profit, we looked at other non-profit news sources, such as Chalkbeat and Mirror Indy, for guidance. The local daily newspaper, which is owned by an out-of-state company, gets local tax revenue from public notices, requires paid subscriptions and has a banner at the top and bottom of the front page, in addition to advertising throughtout. (In fairness, when we did the weekly print edition, we had a 50% ad ratio.) We are looking at no more than 3 banner ads (top, middle, bottom) now - we've only done one so far, of course. This will allow us to budget responsibility. We'll continue to be donor-supported while provided the news without paywalls. Again, I recognize the change from my previous practice on this, but hopefully this offers some insights into the rationale. I certainly appreciate your support; The Addison Times wouldn't exist without it. Thanks for all you do! - Krisitaan Rawlings
So the Addison Times is now called Stephenson Rife Times? A sign of the times.
